What is FIRE?
FIRE stands for Financial Independence, Retire Early. The core idea is to save and invest aggressively (often 50-70% of income) to build a portfolio large enough that investment returns cover your living expenses, allowing you to retire decades earlier than traditional retirement age.
The 4% Rule
The 4% rule (based on the Trinity Study) suggests you can withdraw 4% of your portfolio in the first year of retirement, then adjust for inflation, with a high probability of your money lasting 30+ years.
FIRE Number = Annual Expenses x 25 (which is 1 / 0.04)
