Stripe Fee Structures

Standard Online Payments:

Fee = (Amount × 2.9%) + $0.30 Net Amount = Amount - Fee

In-Person Payments (Terminal/Card Reader):

Fee = (Amount × 2.7%) + $0.05 Lower percentage and fixed fee for card-present transactions

International Card Transactions:

Fee = (Amount × 4.4%) + $0.30 Standard rate + 1.5% for cards issued outside your country

Currency Conversion:

Fee = Standard Fee + (Amount × 1%) Additional 1% for transactions involving currency conversion

For example, receiving $100 with standard fees: $100 - ($2.90 + $0.30) = $96.80 net. To receive exactly $100, you would need to charge $103.30.

Understanding Stripe Fees

Stripe's standard fee structure for online payments is 2.9% + $0.30 per successful transaction. This applies to credit and debit card payments processed through Stripe's payment gateway. Unlike some competitors, Stripe has no setup fees, monthly fees, or hidden charges—you only pay when you make a sale.

In-person transactions using Stripe Terminal or card readers have a slightly lower fee of 2.7% + $0.05, reflecting the lower fraud risk of card-present transactions. This makes Stripe competitive for brick-and-mortar businesses and event sales.

International card transactions incur an additional 1.5% fee (total 4.4% + $0.30). A card is considered international if it was issued in a country different from your business location. Additionally, if currency conversion is required, Stripe charges an extra 1% on top of the standard processing fee.

Stripe's fees are automatically deducted from each transaction before funds are transferred to your bank account. Payouts typically arrive in 2 business days for US accounts, though instant payouts are available for an additional 1% fee (minimum $0.50).
